“DMPSP strives to monitor issues that lead to displacement, by conducting required research, assessments and evaluations to provide the necessary support activities for the prevention of displacement or the coordination and mobilization for relief efforts to assist people who have been displaced.”
Our activities serves to provide a platform for inter cultural tolerance, unity, understanding and dignity.
It is an opportunity to enable people to act as responsible global citizens.
Our Focus Areas
Migration, both internal and cross border, which has been caused by socio-economic factors, forced through political or other conflict, or based on human trafficking activities, often leads to displacement and places individuals, communities or populations in vulnerable situations.
Factors leading to such displacement must be monitored in order to ensure that either preventative measures or appropriate support functions can be executed.
Natural Occurrences such as floods and other disasters are often unexpected occurrences, and relief agencies need to be mobilized. The need to provide victims immediate relief is often critical.
Displacement caused by conflict and violence , whether through criminal banditry, political or xenophobic can often be effectively monitored and appropriate preventative measures applied.
When such displacement occurs relevant assessments need to be conducted and initiatives must be implemented to resolve or minimize the violence and provide the required support and protection to victims.
Dmpsp is an active member of the JMAP (City of Johannesburg Migrant Advisory Panel to the Mayoral Committee) and chairs the Shelter, Social Development and Health working Group, as well as the Safety justice and Immigration Working group.
